seven crafts for winter

Dec 24, 2016

while i love to be creative and get my craft on it does not happen nearly as often as i wish. but the holidays are the perfect time to have an excuse and get right to it. this year has been especially fun because hadley has been able to "help" and actually be an active participator whereas last year i did the bare minimum (of essentially nothing let's be honest) since she was but eight months old. too young to remember, too young to participate.

but now that she is almost twenty months, her eagerness to join in is the best motivation to get me off my bum and also the best distraction from all of my looming job applications (hashtag procrastination)!

so without further ado, here are seven simple yet beautiful crafts you and your little one (or just you) can work on for the next few days and really the rest of the year because they're pretty and not tooooo christmassy so you can keep them up all winter long!

1. cinnamon ornaments smell absolutely amazing and are gorgeous to boot. hang them on your tree or as a garland on a wall or window to add holiday charm to each and every room. these ones were no-bake but there are sooo many great recipes on pinterest!

2. so obvious and they speak for themselves, but snowflakes! we live in an apartment building and i was shocked that our windows are the only ones decked out in homemade paper snowflakes.

3. not only do these dried oranges smell amazing whilst they are in the oven, they are classic and seriously so pretty to look at. i never want to take them down! i remember my mom decorating our tree with these and cinnamon ornaments when i was growing up, so they are very close to my heart. hang them in a window for an extra "stained-glass" effect.

4. graham-cracker houses are cheaper, easier and quicker than gingerbread! but watch out because they are also more tempting to eat as you go. hadley absolutely loved helping with this one.

5. i wanted something to spruce up hadley's room as well so i decided to make this ornament garland to hang above her crib and i am thrilled with how it turned out! anything miniature (hello babies and puppies) just tugs at my heartstrings like crazy and these mini ornaments were nooo different. ha! all you need is some ornament wire, pliers (or wire cutters), patience and cute mini ornaments of your choosing (i got mine from jo-ann's).

6. we made handprint wreaths last year with hadley and they turned out so well we had to do one again this year (since i'm all for honesty, last years' were better hah!) these are such a great keepsake and can be a fun money-saving gift for grandparents and relatives!

7. this craft is one the kids will have fun joining in on. what kid doesn't want to have their own santa face? simply take a paper plate, red construction paper, school glue and cotton balls and go wild! make the beard as fluffy or simple as you want and have the kids press the cotton balls on themselves, as well as (of course) posing with their santa face!

what other crafts do you enjoy doing during the winter/holiday time? i had planned on making a pine cone garland to hang on the wall by our tree but we have had such a wet winter i haven't found time to gather dry cones. we just might still do that though after all of these christmas festivities come to a close. let me know if you do any of these and how you like them! merry christmas eve!
